The Many, Many Flavors of Asia
Everyone loves Asian cuisine! And families love sharing that great taste together, too. But do you know the difference between Chinese and Thai? How about Polynesian and Japanese? Here´s a quick summary of your ethnic favorites:
 |
In most dishes in Chinese cuisine, food is prepared in bite-sized pieces, ready for eating. Meals are typically prepared with the food's texture, flavor, color and aroma in the forefront, and consist of four food groups: grains, vegetables, fruit and meat. |
 |
Thai cuisine is capturing North American palates with its intense flavors, fragrant aromas and eye-appealing presentations. Thanks to multidimensional flavors and pungent, spicy notes, Thai food is growing in popularity. |
 |
Polynesian cuisine gets its roots from Hawaiian culture, but enhancements from Asia. This contemporary cuisine focuses on fish and products of the land prepared with salty, sweet and spicy enhancements. |
 |
Japanese cuisine is based on combining staple foods such as rice or noodles, with a soup and fish, meat, vegetable or tofu. The foods are typically flavored with dashi, miso and soy sauce and are usually low in fat – but sometimes high in salt. |

Q: I've heard cooking with tofu is healthy ... What's an easy way to get my kids to try it?
A: Tofu, also known as soybean curd, is a soft, cheese-like food made by curdling fresh hot soymilk that was first used in China around 200 B.C. Tofu is rich in high-quality protein and is a good source of B-vitamins and iron. It is very versatile and takes on almost any flavor you cook with. Some suggestions for kids:
- Try adding a package of taco seasoning to a mixture of tofu and ground beef for tofu tacos.
- Blend tofu with melted chocolate chips and a little sweetener to make a chocolate cream pie.
- Make a healthy fruit smoothie.

Here are a few comments from satisfied Kahiki customers about their experience with our frozen foods:
“I just wanted to let you know that I have finally found an egg roll that really tastes like an egg roll should. I also love your chicken fried rice. I have not tried all of your products, but I am sure I will at some time. Please keep up the high standard of your products. I love what I have tried and am sure I will try other Kahiki items.” -- Jimmy V., Anderson, S.C.
“I am so happy to find your products in the store. I am very sensitive to Monosodium Glutumate, broccoli, etc. and love to see that you have a frozen meal without these in it. I enjoy seeing 0g Trans Fat, No MSG added and the little time it takes to heat it on the front of the box. Great designs! I have tried several of your frozen meals and every one has been great! Keep it up.” -- Brenda F., Ann Arbor, MI
